Rudi Trap was born in the Netherlands in 1950.  His parents immigrated to South Africa when he was still young and settled in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha).  He studied for a diploma in Art Education at the P.E. Technicon and lectured art in Cape Town thereafter for two years before moving to Johannesburg in 1974.  He spent the next couple of years teaching art in all mediums and exploring various subject matters.

Rudi has had the privilege of exhibiting at, among others, the University of Johannesburg, Pretoria Art Gallery, and as a resident exhibitor at Melville Art Gallery.  Rudi also hosted various intimate exhibitions at home, mostly displaying his erotic art.

Rudi has enjoyed permanent representation at Bont Huijs since 2010.  A highlight of his career was when he compiled a series of 50 drawings of his mother’s diary, which she kept during the Second World War; which he displayed on invitation in Hoorn, Netherlands.

One of Rudi’s most noteworthy achievements was his involvement at Egoli from the beginning of 2000.  He enjoyed being the art director, head of the art department, and one of the producers until the end of the groundbreaking soapy.  Rudi has since retired and finds himself loving tapestry art and still providing Bont Huijs with commissioned art.
