This is arguably the most controversial art piece in the gallery.

“This depiction highlights that divine qualities such as compassion, wisdom and grace are not bound by gender but are rather universally human.” Philippe

This work disrupts inherited visual codes of sanctity and masculinity. By layering archetypes of Christ’s suffering with female sex characteristics, it asks: What if the image of redemption was not only male? What if the sacred body bore plural genders?

The piece resists the urge to smooth over discomfort—it invites it. Not to desecrate, but to rupture assumptions. Jesus, in this lens, is not reduced but expanded—echoing the mystics and rebels who imagined Christ in the guise of everybody: male, female, transfigured, transfixed.

In an age where gender identities are both politicized and personal, this crucifixion becomes a mirror. It asks: Can divinity hold multitudes? Can pain be seen beyond the masculine? Can God’s body be our body?

“The role of art is to disturb the comfortable,

and comfort the disturbed”
