Insomnia is a fabulous fauvist-inspired meditation on the restless mind, non-naturalistic colour and fragmented human forms embody the tension between wakefulness and sleep.  Emerging in the early 20th Century (c1905-1908), fauvism liberated colour from naturalism, and here its expressive palette evokes the flood of thoughts, rituals and dream-like distortions that accompany sleeplessness – with a bit of pop art
